Blizzard might be planning to implement a new achievement system with the release of World Warcraft's Wrath of the Lich King expansion, based on a recent rumor we've run into.
This bit of speculation originated from the World of Raid forums, where member Huggadubba reports spotting the new option via WotLK's Alpha build. Huggadubba also gave an explanation of how WoW's achievement system might work:
The basics are: You can achieve "Achievments" by for example exploring all of Outlands or Northrend. Other achievments are for example levelling to 30 without dying, completing xxxx quests etc. The reward is achievement points which are used for something, currently unknown. I'm freaking thrilled over this feature, as there are plenty of categories you can get achievments in such as PvP, Exploration, Quests, Mob kills etc.
Huggadubba managed to grab a couple of screenshots of the achievement scheme, although they were quickly taken down due to copyright issues. Whether this feature is official or not remains to be seen.
